Big Break: A Hilarious Misfire at the Tonight Show Film Festival

In a world where even the best ideas can feel like they’ve been pulled from a hat full of expired coupons, Big Break presents the father-son duo of Dave and Jimmy Collins, who are on a quest to create a film that will dazzle audiences at Jimmy Fallon’s inaugural Tonight Show Film Festival. Spoiler alert: they don’t quite hit the mark, but the journey is a riot.

It all kicks off when Dave, the dad with more enthusiasm than talent, decides that their film should be a touching family drama. Jimmy, the son who’s probably too young to know better, suggests a buddy cop movie where the buddies are actually just two raccoons who solve crimes in a dumpster. And thus begins the epic battle of wits, or lack thereof, as they try to combine these ideas into one coherent film.

They spend the first half of the movie brainstorming, which mostly consists of them shouting random movie titles at each other like they’re at a game of charades gone terribly wrong. “What about *Raccoon Cop*?” shouts Jimmy, while Dave counters with, “How about *The Last Raccoon*?” Spoiler: no raccoons are harmed in the making of this film, but their dignity is definitely at stake.

As they struggle to write their script, we’re treated to a series of increasingly absurd montages. Picture this: Dave attempts to channel his inner Tarantino, while accidentally creating a horror flick about a family of raccoons that turn into highly trained assassins. Yes, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds, and yes, the raccoons have a better character arc than some of the human actors.

Fast forward to the festival, where they finally unveil their masterpiece. The audience, a mix of confused hipsters and bewildered parents, is treated to a film that oscillates between heartfelt father-son bonding moments and scenes of raccoons engaging in high-octane car chases. When a raccoon dons a tiny fedora and starts delivering one-liners, the crowd is torn between laughter and existential dread. Spoiler: the raccoon is the best actor in the film.

In a twist that no one saw coming (except maybe the raccoons), Jimmy Fallon himself makes a cameo as a raccoon wrangler who just wants to take a nap. His deadpan delivery and utter confusion at what’s happening on screen become the highlight of the festival. The film ends with a dramatic showdown between the raccoon assassins and a gang of squirrels, which leads to a shocking conclusion: the squirrels win, and the raccoons are left to ponder their life choices.

As the credits roll, the audience claps nervously, unsure if they just witnessed a work of genius or a tragic comedy. Dave and Jimmy walk off stage, proud of their creation, unaware that they’ve just created a cult classic for the ages. Spoiler alert: they end up being invited back next year, but this time, they promise to leave the raccoons at home.

In conclusion, if you’re in the mood for a film that’s as chaotic as a raccoon in a trash can, Big Break delivers in spades. Just don’t expect to take it seriously—unless you’re a raccoon, in which case, this might just be your new favorite flick.
