WALL·E: A Modern Shakespearean Spoiler Review
ACT I
WALL-E: (soliloquizing)
Oh, solitary sentinel of a forgotten Earth,
Thou hast left me to ponder the debris of yore!
For countless years I’ve compacted trash,
My metal heart longs for more than this ash.
VOICE OF THE NARRATOR:
Aye, dear WALL-E, thou art but a humble trash compactor,
Yet in thy circuits lies a spark of wonder!
Behold the day when fate doth intervene,
As fair EVA descends, a vision pristine.
EVA:
(with a flourish)
WALL-E, what art thou? A rusted knight, a fool?
In search of a plant, art thou but a tool?
WALL-E:
(blushingly)
A tool, perhaps, but with a heart so bold!
Thou hast ignited a fire, a story untold.
ACT II
EVA:
(holding the plant)
This green sprout, it doth signify hope!
To return to the ship, we must learn to cope.
WALL-E:
(with determination)
Fear not, sweet EVA, for I shall be thy guide,
Through the ruins and wreckage, I shall abide!
VOICE OF THE NARRATOR:
Thus they journey to the Axiom, a ship of the lost,
Where humans float, oblivious to the cost.
With screens before them, they sip from their cups,
While WALL-E and EVA plot to wake them up.
ACT III
CAPTAIN:
(obliviously)
What is this strange ruckus? What’s that noise?
Is it a malfunction, or just WALL-E’s toys?
EVA:
(with fervor)
Awake, ye slumbering souls! Thy fate is at hand!
Return to thy Earth, let us take a stand!
WALL-E:
(pleading)
A world filled with life, with trees and with grass!
Not merely a ship where thou all sit and pass!
VOICE OF THE NARRATOR:
In a twist most delightful, the humans arise,
Their eyes wide with wonder, they gaze at the skies.
With WALL-E and EVA leading the charge,
The ship’s fate hangs in balance, oh, how they enlarge!
ACT IV
EVA:
(after a struggle)
WALL-E, my love! Thou hast saved us all!
But what of thyself? Shall thou rise or fall?
WALL-E:
(with a smile, though battered)
Fear not, dear EVA, for love conquers all,
Even if I be but a rusted metal ball.
VOICE OF THE NARRATOR:
And thus, with a kiss, they seal their fate,
The future of Earth, a new vibrant slate.
So remember, dear audience, as you venture afar,
In the heart of a trash heap, love shines like a star.
